A tender homage indeed. Yes, the world is overflowing with too much grief. My thoughts are often about the welfare of Israel. I appreciate your observations about the way cats communicate. The French phrase 'à bon chat, bon rat' (literally meaning 'to a good cat, a good rat'), is so true. My son and his wife have two cats. One of them, a tabby named Butters, is such a loving cat. Thanks for your lovely story.

Thanks. Left me in tears over a dead cat that I never knew.

The first thing Rosie's death made me recall was a cat I had named Floella. When she died we put her in an burlap Earth Shoe bag & buried her in the back yard. The next day I nearly tripped over the bag when I went out the back door because my dog had decided to dig her up & bring her back to the house. A second, deeper burial followed, covered with plywood & bricks. When I left our Memphis home I was sad to leave her sweet bones behind. There have been many other dogs & cats & people since who have touched my heart & crushed me when they left me to carry the lessons forward. Your Rosie visited my house often. She sat on the west side, on top of the fence & looked into our kitchen window. It took a while for us to bond because I had an issue with the hummingbird she murdered, but eventually we became friends & she sometimes sat in the backyard with me., occasionally beside me, sometimes just above on the fence. When she got old I got protective of her, once picking her up from a nap in the warm street. I will miss her sweet little soul, her contribition to the neighborhood. There's no words.

Awe, Eric, this is hard news about the passing of Sweet Cracklin’ Rosie. As Grandma Flora might have said “Oh, she was a worker.” A legendary hunter and a beloved sweetheart in the bargain. So glad to have enjoyed the opportunity to spend a little time with Rosie and all your wonderful kits and pups this summer. Young Gus is amazing in his own right. He and Sweet Hazel must now pick up the gauntlet. So glad Ell’s Irons was there at the Vet with you. In due course grief will give way to joy at the countless happy memories of dear, Sweet Rosie.
