Yup. It was the small farm in Minnesota. For my parents. Me I changed orchard pipes. Morning and after school. Hey when I was twelve we got a great tv ,there wasn’t any reception living below winans town. I admired your hard work in the wheat fields.

My parents grew up in Askov Minnesota. Not me nor my sisters. But I want to tell a story about how I forgot to lock the Jake brake and the vehicle with long pipe trailer attached fell into a ravine of black berries. I reporte this to Charley deitch and he just noodle. Don’t worry. Well pull it out wirh a tractor. Ah ah funny story. Younger Charlie ‘bubba’ and his buddy Troxel yes that Troxel always hazed me when I first started changing pipe. On my first day they claimed they need a pipe fitting from the barn and hurry up and run and bring it back. That was an almost a quarter mile. But I did and sweating and panting I showed it to Duane and Bubba and bubba said thanks but we don’t need it and started laughing like crazy. Funny guys they were. I wonder+what they are doing now. Looks now like the orchards are torn out and two million dollar homes are on great view lots above Phelps creek. Maybe bubba is doing well. I hope so.

The lug nut bit cracked me up. I worked for a guy like that once. My brother and I called him “Dad,” lol.

Also, you look like a guy who probably didn’t check them. I know I didn’t.

I was lucky enough to cover agriculture the last few years of my journalism career. Oregon’s farmers and ranchers, on the whole, were the smartest and most accomplished people I encountered.

I grew up in farm country, albeit in the Midwest (NW Ohio). Did a fair bit of that work myself. I know what you’re saying.

Remarkable, capable people.

That 48' International is a beautiful truck. They are probably still using it.

Isn’t it, though? I hope I got the lug nut story right, I’m working from memory.

One day driving I watched my front wheel spinning down the freeway. Lug nuts. Who needs them I drove into Hoodriver and went to the auto parts store and yes after I bought them I put them back on the wheel and went around the car kicking the lug wrench on every tire.
